It was a beautiful 2001 Christmas Eve, snowflakes slowly descended to the snow covered ground, choirs singing their harmonising carols, the traditional red and green lights flickering into the horizon across the frosted winter evening. But for some, it wasn’t all merry. Twins Krystal and Kylian Waybright had not seen their beloved father for months. And now they were 12, with the overpowering fear of their father being dead. After going to work on the 9th of September from Newark to New York , the worst happened. Fire, destruction, death as 9/11 happened. They could remember the news on TV at school. They could remember their mum Cherry Waybright crying and calling her husband. They could remember the sorrow, the pain and the tears that followed. But they knew that the glorious day of the 25th of December with presents, the turkey and most importantly spending time with family. So they should look to the future like the soldiers did in WW1 on Christmas Day when they played football. And as they were going to bed...

‘’ I am going to ask for a telescope, what about you Kylian?’’ Krystal asked.

‘’ Me, I am going to ask for FIFA 01, so many of my friends have it!’’ Kylian responded. But as they were going to bed, they dreamed about last year’s Christmas, how their dad made his special Beef Wellington, how they sang ‘’All I Want For Christmas’’ by Marie Carey until their throats hurt, how Kylian tried to make cookies and almost burnt the house to the ground while wearing ugly sweaters their grandma had knitted for them. But anything could happen on Christmas. Miracles, if they were true...

They were awoken to the traditional song being played downstairs at 5:OO am downstairs on full volume. They both woke up and just expected to see their mum but instead was a 6 foot 3 figure with a bushy moustache was roasting chestnuts over an open fire. It was him, it had to be.

Without thinking, they both rushed downstairs and hugged each other tight.

‘’ You’re alive! I mean... we thought you were dead!’’ Krystal said between tears.

‘’ Yeah we've missed you so much!’’ Kylian rejoiced.

Their mother was sitting next to them with an ugly woolly jumper with a hot cup of eggnog on her special mug.

‘’ Now now, I’m here and let’s have a brilliant Christmas!’’ their father said.

They had so much fun that day, Kylian got FIFAO1 and Krystal got her telescope and they were reunited again as a family. For the first time in what seemed like forever... The twins were happy again. And sometimes in life you need a miracle, you just need to look in the right direction and keep going.
