Book review - The Boy Who Lost His Face by Louis Sachar

David, an ordinary boy, tries to hang around with Scott, his best friend’s new group of mates. In doing so he gets caught up in a whole world of trouble. After walking from school to Mrs Bayfield’s house - an old lady who lives near the village - with his ‘new friends,’ he can see they have malicious intent in their eyes. They say hello to the old lady before making her fall back on her rocking chair, stamping over her flower beds, pouring lemonade all over her on the floor, and finally smashing the empty jug into a window. The other four run off leaving David behind. He subsequently tries to act cool and gives her the middle finger. After getting home these same incidents happen to him.

The main thing I particularly like about the book is that the main characters are older children/ teenagers and what they go through can be quite similar to what someone my age goes through. Another thing I liked about the book was that there wasn't actually a curse but instead David was just being unlucky.

The only thing I disliked about the book was the ending. After involving a fight, I thought something would happen to Mrs. Bayfield which would prevent her from cursing anyone else. Instead it turned out that Tori and Mrs Bayfield were related and Mrs. Bayfield is just a talented artist.

Overall I do think it was a good back and would recommend it to my friends or people around my age.
